The replacement unit has the same problem. Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R1WIWEQX5PAVXE I bought one based on recommendations from friends and use of one of their units. This is an issue that has been verified with Midland Radio. My new one was defective right out of the box (batt saver mode does not work properly-video review shows what happens every ten seconds). Amazon replaced it immediately (thank you, Amazon). The replacement unit is now in their hands pending repair/replacement by them. I hope they return one that functions properly.
I read the other reviews for this and other CB HT's {handy-talky} and one thing troubled me about this radio and thin i realized what the writer was saying when he said that the range doped to nill in a car. this radio was perfect for me because I'm a bicycle mobile so it will be great in both configurations i would also like to point out to the people that will or have modded there CB radios. Well think about all the safety feachers in a car, they make up a big iron box. but if you add a magnet mount antenna such as the: Cobra HG A 1500 Base-Load Medium Magnet Mount 300W CB Antenna that big iron box becomes a huge ground plain which will increasing the range both TX and RX {transmit / receive}and for that reason a also got Cobra HA-TA Hand-Held CB Antenna because the "rubber Dukey" that comes with any radio can be as much as a 10 to 20 Dbs loss. the act of doing that is in violation of FCC part 95 Regulations and doing so will get you 5 years and $5,000 fine minimum as well as confiscation of all equipment and what ever car that its connected to. let me point out that they are not "120 or 400 privet channels" the frequencies are in the Morse code portion of Ham Radio 12 meter band, and we as Hams report all misconduct and unlicensed users to the FCC.
The radio works as advertised. However, audio quality leaves a lot to be desired. Poor quality audio makes it very difficult to clearly understand received transmissions.
Purchased this radio a month ago and it has exceeded all my expectations.Very easy to recharge batteries right in the lower portion of the radio. Also the accessory plug adapter is great for use in the car or on the motorcycle.
If your looking for compact this the unit to get. I got it so that i wouldnt have to mount a traditional cb radio in my truck. i only use it when im towing my jeep, and with the external antenna you get pretty good distance. i would recommened this unit to anyone who is not looking for a top of line cb and for its compact size.
